Message ( I haven't seen a set of the Jspecs with the additional fluting as found on the later sets. I saw that the Diablo has the additional fluting as well. )

The only set with additional fluting are any USDM headlight assemblies made after 1995. The Diablo has them because they got headlights from Nissan after the revised units replaced the old in 95.

(From what Iceman posted, it's pretty clear how bad the fluting affected the output.)

I'm not disagreeing that they didn't affect it. My point was if you find the correct projector and or mount the projector correctly within the assembly the fluting wont affect it. The proof in this is with the OEM Xenons. The glass used on these assemblies has identical flutes to JDM and even early USDM glass...with the exception of the nipples. I have seen guys use JDM assemblies and glass for their retrofits and they still have issues similar to iceman...so its not the nipples alone on the USDM. The OEM Xenons light output is not affected in the same manner nor has the cut off been compromised and they have the same flutes. If you're not able to find the correct projector to use or have no way of mounting it correctly then your best route is to use whichever projector makes you happy and have new lenses made without the flutes...but this sounds just as expensive as a set of Xenons.

(Ionic "claims" to have done a lot of adjustments to make them fit correctly)

I heard this too but have also seen a few sets installed and the gap around the projector is not as bad as prior replica inserts but the issue around the high beam reflector, personally looks bad. It just looks someone measured wrong. But some don't mind it I suppose and maybe I'm too picky. lol. I would just keep in mind that a clear lens is going to show the internals of the assembly a lot more than the glass with flutes...so these small issues may be even more noticeable.

Here are some additional photos of mine that might be of interest to your project. I took these while I was merging the Xenon projector into the Euro spec electronic high adjustable assemblies.

This is a comparison of the Euro spec (left) and Xenon assemblies without the bezels. You'll notice the raised lower housing on the Xenon and thus the smaller high beam reflector. You can get an idea how much of the lower section will be cut off. You'll also see how much larger the Xenon projector is compared to the Halogen. The Euro spec halogen is identical to the JDM and USDM halogen with the exception of bulb type and how the projector is mounted to the assembly.

Here is a rough measurement of the Halogen projector glass, not from edge to edge.

Keep us all posted on your project. If you get some great results let us know.
